Victor Kills Elizabeth and Clerval
It can be argued that Victor and the monster are the same person. Victor really killed William, Clerval, and Elizabeth. I think that Victor murders Clerval because he is jealous of him. He wishes that he could be happy like Clerval, but all he can think about is the monster he created and the death of William and Justine. When Victor and Clerval are tralevling Victor says, "In Clerval I saw the image of my former self..." Victor wishes that he could go back to being his former self- go back to the days before he created the monster. Victor also says, "...and yet my enjoyment was embittered both by the memory of the past and the anticipation of the future." Victor can not get his mind off of the monster he created and the monster that he is about to create. He is jealous that Clerval does not have to worry about these things and can live his life in peace. Victor kills Clerval when he is on his boat and he falls asleep. He thinks that he is sleeping, but he really kills Clerval during this time. His boat ends up near the place where Clerval was found dead. Victor kills Elizabeth because he unconsciously blames her for killing his mom. Victor's mom caught the scarlet fever from Elizabeth so if Elizabeth was not there his mom never would have caught scarlet fever and died. He kills her when they are at the inn after their wedding. No one else was in the room with Elizabeth when she was killed so there are no witnesses to say that Victor did not kill her. Since Victor is telling Walton this story he could have lied and said that the monster killed Elizabeth when it was really Victor that killed her. He also could believe so strongly that there is a monster that he thinks it is the truth and does not realize he is lying. His mind is unstable. This can be seen when he goes to sleep he pretends that everyone is still alive and he talks to them.
Why Does Shelly Write About Everything Her Mother Fought Against?
A very faded theme that i have notice through out this story is Shellys need to create passive female characters. Shellys mother we learned was an active femanist and she creates these extremly passive females. Not only are these women passive they all die for he sake of a man. The first female that we see is his mother Caroline and she sacrificly dies for her daughter whom she adopted as a "present" for her son. The daughter gets sick with Scarlet fever and lives through it where as the mother passes away. The next person you see die for a Frankenstein man is Justine she is executed for the death of William Frankenstein where it was do Victor and his creation. The next "woman" that is subjected to death is the female monster she is aborted becasuse Victor fears he will not be able to control her. An dthe final female that is subject to death becasue of Victor frankenstein is Elizabeth. She waits and waits for Victor to come around is murdred by the monster. I believe that shelly created these oassiver and deadly females because she is attempting to prove that men in her time are submissive to women. The feel that the women are replaceable and are un needed. Another point of view i see is originally the book was going to be puiblished as Percy Shellys work so maybe she created it with these passive women so it would pass as his work and be published. There are many possible interpretations of why Mary Shelly created these passive women. My belief is that she was continuing her mothers work and showing what terrible and horrifying things men can do to women and not even think twice about it. Or what terrible situations and danger men put women in. I think that this is a major underlying theme that many people do not notice or give much thought to and really should.

The Monster is Symbolic of Mary's Writing
Mary Shelley grew up in a time where women were not respected as they are today. Men thought that they were better than women. Therefore Mary’s writing was not taken as serious as it would have been if a man wrote it. Some people automatically did not like Mary’s writing because she was a woman. They judged her writing before they even read it. Her writing can be compared to Frankenstein’s monster. People take one look at the monster and assume that he is a terrible creature and is going to harm something. They judge him before they get to know him. If people gave him a chance and did not run from him then he would not become a killer. When Frankenstein is talking to the monster the monster says, "Be calm! I entreat you to hear me before you give vent to your hatred on my devoted head." The monster wants to be able to explain himself before he is judged. He also says, "How can I move thee? will no entreaties cause thee to turn a favorable eye upon thy creature, who implores thy goodness and compassion?" The monster wants to be good and he wants to explain this to Frankenstein, but Frankensten will not listen. This is symbolic of Mary's writing because some people would not like her writing because they knew a woman wrote it, no matter how good someone else said it was.

Chapter 5 Dream Analysis
I think that Victor has this dream because he is feeling guilty about creating the monster. Elizabeth is in his dream because he misses her and he wants to see her. He has been away from her and the rest of his family for a long time. Victor is afraid that Elizabeth is going to die and this dream is foreshadowing her death. Victor also misses his mom. In his dream he saw the, "grave worms crawling in the folds of the flannel" because she is dead. He wishes that he could bring her back to life just like he brought life to the monster. Also, I think that in the dream Elizabeth turned into Victor's mom because Elizabeth gave Victor's mom the scarlet fever and that is how she died. Elizabeth turning into Victor's mom represents the transfer of the scarlet fever.

Victor as Mary's Fears
Ok so i going to start up our first blog. I wanted to compare and contrast some of the qualities between Victor Frankenstein and his creater Mary Shelly. Victor is more involved in the sciences to an extreme amount where Mary Shelly one could say has a slight fear or dislike of the sciences. You can also see how Mary Shelly places here fears into Victors persona. Mary was the daughter of 2 very intelligent people and loving parents as was Victor. However many people felt the becasuse she was the daughter these 2 people that she should be this protogy and im sure that was not easy growing up. So she instilled her fear of failure into her charancter Victor. When he went off to school his professor Krempe dismissed his plans as an alchemist and called it a waste of time he then went and greated the "monster". I think that this is Mary's way of showing that she was afraid that this ghost story would be a waste of her time and that she would not live up to the expectations that people had for her. So when creating this story she had Victor (herself) create a "monster" which represents this novel. The monster then becomes disater like and that is how she see this novel ending up. Its just an idea of what might have been going on in her head while writting this story consiously and unconsiously.
